The New Courtyard

Following the processes that take place within the depository, the exhibition produces more façades then the amount it removes from the city and ejects back into the urban context. What happens with all the residue of value that the depository produces? In order to free space within the depository several underutilized exemplars will be re-introduced into the city taking the site of the Berlin disrupted courtyards.
The operation challenges the current absurdity of preservation and solves the dilemma with utilization of destroyed courtyards in Berlin. As a result of destruction, many courtyard were revealed to the street. Due to preservation regulations, the spaces are not allowed to be utilized for construction. As a result, some courtyards are being inhabited by junk structures such as garages and temporary storage spaces while other examples are left completely abandoned, creating a unique state of abandonment in the city centre.
These courtyard will become sites for facade dumps,
where unused fragments will be placed in order to challenge and solve local urban and architecture problems. The aim is to create an enclose labyrinthine morphology that will enhance the perception of these spaces without undermining the power of the blanc fire walls which become so symbolic for the city.
